Third Fin / Independently ownedCase study 05

A gap in the market.
A reason to build.

Working in fintech for fulfillment brought a question into focus: where should a 3PL operator start when looking for software?

Idea, branding & website / Jake Tripp

Third Fin is my own venture. I developed the idea, created the brand and built the website.

Start with the idea
01 / The openingIndustry experience / Product idea

A useful place
to start.

While working with RocketFuel Recharge, I saw an opportunity for a more useful collection of software for third-party logistics operators.

Automation, AI and new approaches to manual processes were part of the opportunity I saw. Third Fin grew from a simple aim: help operators explore the tools available to them in one place.

02 / The identityThird-party fulfillment + Fintech

A name from
the work itself.

Third Fin plays on third-party fulfillment and fintech. The connection came from my work with RocketFuel, a fintech business serving fulfillment operators.

The idea, branding and website are my solo project. That ownership let me develop the identity and the product together, around a specific audience and a practical job to do.

03 / The productSearch / Browse / Learn

Turn a broad search
into a starting point.

The directory offers different ways in: search for software, browse by operational category, or use a guide to understand the choices before building a shortlist.

The work connects brand development with information structure, content and website delivery. Its purpose is to make a complicated software landscape easier to explore.

Public homepage captured October 2026. Figures within the capture describe the directory at that time; they are not audience, revenue or growth results.

04 / The principleUsefulness before monetization

Build something
worth returning to.

A directory has several possible business models. For me, those opportunities depend on the product being useful to the people it is built for.

Third Fin brings together the parts of the work I enjoy: spotting an opportunity, understanding an audience, developing a brand and building something people can use.
